Case Study: Crop Doctor AI, an AI Crop Disease App on Google Play
Crop Doctor AI lets a farmer photograph a sick plant and get a diagnosis and treatment advice in seconds. BoohaWeb designed and built the app end to end in Flutter, with a Firebase backend, Google Gemini for image analysis and Google Play Billing for paid scan packs. The app is live on Google Play.
The Challenge
Farmers often lose a crop before they can get an expert to look at it. The goal was an app simple enough for a first-time smartphone user: open it, take a photo, get an answer. It also had to keep AI costs under control and protect the API keys that power it.
What We Built
- Photo diagnosis: the farmer snaps a photo and Google Gemini identifies the likely disease, with treatment and prevention tips.
- Secure backend: all AI calls run through Firebase Cloud Functions, so no secret API keys ship inside the app.
- Free scans plus paid packs: every install gets free scans, and more can be bought as consumable packs through Google Play Billing, verified on the server before scans are granted.
- Weather and crop tips to help farmers plan spraying and irrigation.
- Cost guard: a cloud budget alert so AI usage can never run up an unexpected bill.
